What is XReTarget?

XReTarget is a Tag Plugin, which transfers animations or poses from one character to another. You will now object surely that there is already the MOCCA integrated Retarget Tag doing this job. The idea developing XReTarget actually came while working with the MOCCA Tag, which unfortunately could not fulfill our requirements. The "X" in the name of our Plugin suggests it already. XReTarget can do more, is thus an eXtension of the function range of Retarget.

Different object structures

The substantial difference consists probably of the fact that the object structures of the source and target objects may be completely different. Assumed, you work on the animation of a figure with a classical MOCCA setup. The figure can be moved thus by the MOCCA IK simply using some fewer control objects. On the other hand however many animations especially for standard motions are at free disposal. Maybe you own the program "Poser" with it's "walking designer", which can easily create convincing courses of motion. Or you are using a motion capture system...

With XReTarget you can transfer any bone animation – e.g. from a biovision file – to your MOCCA figure. Turned around it's naturally also possible to transfer your MOCCA animation to a simple bone skeleton.

Naturally you do not need MOCCA, in order to be able to profit from XReTarget. Animations from different sources can be combined and be transferred to any figure.

Controlling every single bone object

XReTarget provides control elements for the assignment of a source bone object, for the selection of the computation mode, as well as the strength in per cent for each bone object of the target object structure. This flexibility requires unfortunately a little additional work for your part. However, the software was programmed in a way that it can remove a majority of this work from you. It will automatically assign corresponding objects in the source structure to all objects in the target structure, which have the same name. The other controls can optionally be synchronised.

Recording

The transferred animation data can be recorded. Position and rotation tracks can be created both for the bones and for the control objects of a MOCCA setup. So you can continue working with the MOCCA IK.
